I googled eBay customer service to check an order. According to police, scammers are able to redirect incoming calls and falsely represent popular corporate company service numbers. The “Ebay representative” ( “Jimmy Anderson”) alerted me to an unauthorized purchase from another state and that I would need to secure my account and verify my identity. He asked regular questions then proceeded to request I add the Anydesk app so he could guide me through the process and I would have a secure recording for my records. He said I would need to deposit the balance of my account into my cash app(he was able to see because the Anydesk app allowed him to remote into my phone). I questioned him but since I called them, I was questioning myself and assured me repeatedly it would be refunded and it was going into my personal cash app account. I did not know what Bitcoin was and became distracted as I was driving at first, then handling after school mom stuff while on the phone. He told me how to convert to Bitcoin, then the funds would be refunded back into my account as cash within the hour. It was just to re-secure my information. He sent me the case number and saw that I had another bank account and requested I repeat the process. I did not. He told me to call back if the funds were not refunded within the hour. When I hung up, I called back immediately, and he answered, laughed, and said not to worry. I called back an hour later because the money was not refunded, and no one answered. Cashapp is familiar with these scams and would not research who received the withdrawal-but verified my device was connected to my account, as I had already stated. I have not been able to get my money back. Watch out for Cash App too! They are providing a gateway for these scams to occur, therefore they are facilitating repeated fraudulent activity and essentially, they are scammers, as well.
