Lying very ill in a hospital bed, I was contacted by someone stating they were from Duke Energy. We automatically pay via our bank, so red flags went up. November 11th we paid bill. This man said we were delinquent with our bill and we had 25 minutes to pay or our power would be shut off. I read him the text receipt that Duke had sent me. He asked if I knew my bank information, but I didn’t. He should call my husband. Man said,” you don’t know , but husband does….hmmm.” The phone was disconnected. I immediately called my husband and told him to call Duke directly. Please stop these people before more people get hurt

Received a text Dear Duke Energy customer this Notification is to inform you that your electrify service will be disconnected. Please visit or contact us at 888-959-5173. Called and was informed a notification was sent in July informing we owe $398.62 for a new meter and techs were being dispatched to our home within 30 minutes. If this is not paid service will be disconnected. Said I needed to go to an office to pay immediately. Office doesn’t slow customers. Called back and was told I needed to go to Walmart, Walgreens or CVS to get a Visa vanilla gift card and call back with the receipt and card. I then called Duke and was told this is a scam.
