Type of a scam Online Purchase
The Scam: No one will talk with you by phone and you'll never physically see anyone. We contacted each other via InstaGram DM. In spite of my best attempts to try and vet them as scam artists, they came across as 'somewhat" knowledgeable about birds however there were "red flags' that I missed. (i.e. no phone contact, numerous domain names, strange IP addresses, etc). When I decided to purchase a parrot, someone by the name of DeAngelo Jermaine Woods Jr. contacted me and indicated that the bird would be picked up by his contracted courier, Delta Cargo. There is a legit company called Delta Cargo but the real Delta Cargo's website address doesn't end in XYZ. (I missed this). The day of the purchase, Mr DeAngelo Woods (email: [email protected]) asked me to Zelle him the funds, the funds would be verified and then the bird would be "registered" for transportation. When I asked him what this registration process entailed, as I think back the answer didn't make much sense. The funds were sent via Zelle, and I was e-mailed some some paperwork to sign. As I think back, the paperwork was all fictitious. After the paperwork was signed I was told my bird was being picked up by the courier service and taken to the airport. I was then contacted a few hours later by Delta Cargo, indicating that there was a "new" law in Indiana that the bird had to be "insured" for $1500 before being transported.
It was at this point that I determined that this was all a scam and demanded my money back. I did not received the bird nor my money back. After several attempts to contact Mr. Woods, the InstaGram DM went dead silent and I received no further communications from them.
