The caller left a message for me to call regarding an urgent tax matter that was going to be turned over to legal authorities if I did not call back. The person with whom I spoke claimed that I owed approximately $6000 to the IRS for my 2012-2013 return. The caller insisted that the underpayment was in my name. When I responded that I had not filed an individual tax return in more than 40 years, she said that it didn't matter,that I still owed this money. When I said that I had never received any written notice of this underpayment, she told me that there had been several unsuccessful attempts to deliver a letter to me - and I told her that no such notice had ever been left for me. When I tried to get the caller to give me the name of the organization for which she works,she became very annoyed and hung up.
