"My name is Donna Bass. I want you to help me change my house roof as soon as you can. Are you available?"
This is my first message to her after receiving a message from ScamPulse.com that this "consumer" messaged me:
"Good Morning Donna,
We'd love to replace your roof. We just need more information about the project if you can, then we can set up a time to do an estimate for you.
Is your house 1 or 2 stories?
What is the pitch of the roof?
What is the square footage of the house?
In what time are you looking to have the project done?
What type of roof is it?
What are your concerns?
You can contact Cory (owner) at ********** I forwarded the message to him so that we can discuss further when we have more information.
We appreciate you reaching out to us!"
She responds:
"Thank you for your prompt response.
I would have loved to give you a call immediately but I want to let you know that am just reciprocating from diagnosis of cancer of the lungs, all I can do right now is email, perhaps text.
Having said, here is my address which I would like you to give me the estimate of the roof replacement : 2811 E 9th St, Vancouver, WA 98661
Since Better Business Bureau recommended you, I have no doubt within me that you'll send me a reasonable price and material quotes ASAP.
Will await the quotations ASAP.

My message:
"I understand you are recuperating from the medical schedule that must've taken place to remove the cancer from your lungs. I sent you questions in my last email, could you please answer those to the best of your ability?
If we are to do an estimate, we need someone to meet us at the house. We do an inspection in the attic to do a thorough search to give you a more accurate estimate so there are no surprises on the cost. Can someone meet us there?"
She messages back:
"Not now because am away for treatment. The house is vacant and you can come for your measurement."
I contacted the ScamPulse.com and they told me that there are red flags that this is a scam situation and that I need to do the research to make sure. I was directed to a website to find out who owns a property in Washington state and looked up the address on the Clark County government website and discovered that this address was a home owned by a local Real Estate Company. I called the company and asked if they knew a Donna Bass and they told me that they did not and that they were selling the home and already had the roof done.
