scammer contacted victim about a used car posting on craigslist, asking them to create a VIN-based car report that they can check out before coming to take a look at the vehicle.

they provided a website (simplebeepbeepreport.com) that redirected to fake VIN check site called DoctorBeepBeep.com.

scammers get you to pay $18.95 for a fake report, presumably while phishing your credit card info.

Put a car up for sale on Craigslist. Received a text from 570-652-5385 that they wanted to look at the vehicle but wanted me to run a report on efficentbeepbeep.com by VIN. Checked out the site, it will collect your credit info. Did not run the report. Asked the person via text to call me. Said they were at a church function and could only text. Asked me again to run the report. I told them I would email it if they gave me an email address. Here is the address: [email protected].

I was selling a vehicle on Craigslist and was contacted via text message buy a gentleman who said he was interested in buying the vehicle but wanted me to send him a VIN report from Doctor beep beep. He gave me the email address that he wanted me to send the report to. When I went to the website he had mentioned it's suspiciously did not offer any price for the report you were going to download I mistakenly entered my VIN number but then when I saw that there was no price listed to download the report yet it was asking for my credit card information I realized this was more than likely a scam trying to gather my personal information or the VIN number from my vehicle I was selling. Attached are two snapshots of the information that he had text me.

Advertised car on Craigslist. Buyer wanted a vehicle check referring me to DoctorBeepBeep.com. Foolishly, I paid the $20.00 with my c/c. They did produce correct info on my car (mileage when purchased). After I did this, I researched doctorbeepbeep and found out it was a scam. I immediately cancelled my credit card with my bank. In the future I will research BEFORE giving my c/c info.

Received a call, as soon as I picked up they hung up. Sent me a message saying "what day this week or weekend is best to check out your car". Called them back but sent me to voicemail, and texted me immediately saying "now isnt the best time for me to talk on the phone, ok if we text?" Asked me "will you pull me a report from efficientautoreport.com to show me everything is OK with the vehicle before I come out to check it out?" and "this shows your cars history... accidents/title etc. please lmk if you can do that and forward document to my email [email protected] that would be great". After I said no they said "once I see its good maybe we can schedule a time to meet? ive been looking at the for a long time. :)" Website linked to doctorbeepbeep.com. Quickly looked online and found some references of phishing related to the doctorbeepbeep website. Blocked the number.

I listed a vehicle for sale on craigslist. I received a text message from someone with a 717 area code asking when I was available to see the car. I told them what day they could come and they responded if it was possible for me to go to some website and pull the car history for the vehicle I am selling and email it to them before they come check out the car. I did my research first like always and found out that this has been done previously to other people to scam them out of money. The website appears legitimate and can fool anyone. Be ware.
