The caller represented himself as Dish Network technical support using the actual Dish Network phone number. He said due to the large number of calls of signal loss from our area in Montana, the network has moved the position of a satellite requiring a software upgrade or we would permanently loose some of our channels. He said the upgrade required a deposit of $199.00 refunded after six months and that Dish Network then would lower our payments $10.00 a month for 24 months. Because I am on auto-pay he said he could not access my credit card number and I would have to give him my number to him directly. That was the tip off. I said I did not give out my number over the phone and he hung up on me.

For the past few weeks, getting many phone calls. Did not answer them because caller ID said Dish Network. I have Directv. They kept calling at all times of the day. I had just gotten my husband out of the hospital, so every time the phone rang, had to look at caller ID, because we were waiting on results of medical tests. Sat Jan 13, I finally answered the phone to tell them to quit calling. An English speaking man, said that I needed to update technology on TV. Told him I have Directv, not Dish. He said they were updating both and if I didn't follow his instructions, my Directv Receiver would no longer work. All he asked for was the Receiver # and Activation #. Then he repeated my home address which I said yes. Then he started asking questions like how many Genies I have. Told him that. That's when my RED FLAG went up. I knew something was strange. What really scared me was that he knew the last 4 digits of my Social Sec number. I hung up and called Directv. Was told that they were not doing any updates in my area. They told me to block the phone number, which I did. Then I called our Credit Card company because we have auto pay using our credit card for Directv. Because it w[censored]iday Weekend (Martin Luther King's), was not able to contact my banking institutions, investment accounts, etc.until Tuesday. I am an educated person and know that there are so many scams out there. Representative at our local ScamPulse.com recommended that I post this info on the on-line Scam Tracker. Watch out, because this is an upgraded scam. I think what threw me was the man spoke perfect english.
