Directv - IMPOSTER Reports & Reviews (3)

Gentlemen called talking really really fast stating he was calling from DirectTV and the caller ID showed DirectTV as well. He stated he was calling to offer us free movie channels 524-542 because we were some longtime customers of DTV. Only thing we had to do was watch there was no additional cost and we didn’t have to call and cancel at the added channels. Once we got home of course there were no free channels and I ended up calling DTV and they didn’t know anything about it. Tried calling the number back and of course now they didn’t answer and now the does not show up as DirectTV. Scam Alert!!!

I received repeated auto-phone calls and voice messages regarding being eligible for 50% off my cable service. I moved into an apartment and have no choice about providers and the only method of payment I was offered was through my bank account. I have received numerous calls since late last year about my account being eligible for being 50% off. I finally called and only towards the end of the call was I informed of a requirement to pay $500 and obtain an eBay card. There is no way that I can find to restrict how my information is used or sold and I have no control over the payment. This is a contract of adhesion and I am very concerned about my account details and future deceitful "promotions" like this.

I received multiple phone solicitations to take advantage of a half-price offer for monthly Directv fees--and needed to phone to hear details.

I resisted most of these calls, but finally decided to check into it by calling the number provided. The person answering the phone indicated that I just needed to let them know my monthly fee to qualify and my service contract #. It was estimated that my 'adjusted' monthly fee would be $80, and that all I needed to do was purchase e-BAY gift cards to total 5 months of the 'adjusted' fee, then call back to give the #'s of the gift cards, plus a special code provided at the time of the initial call.

I purchased 2 $200 e-Bay gift cards and called back, provided the special code and the gift card numbers, but was told that the gift cards were not valid and that I could recoup the lost $400 by purchasing yet another $400 of e-Bay gift cards, at which time I would be guaranteed a reimbursement from ATT for the initial $400.

I stupidly complied (so now I am into this for $800), only to be told that I did not supply the information (special code then e-Bay card numbers) in the proper order, so the offer was void--but I could still recoup the lost $800 if I repeated the process yet again--which I did not do.

I did ask the person on the phone if this was a scam--to which they responded that yes, it was a scam.

Then, I received a text message which read: "Dear (my name), We regret to inform you that your services will be interrupted and $2000 penalty charges will be imposed on your account. Kindly call the billing department at 8446854651/8663042015 to resolve the problem. Regards, DTV".
