Called saying they were from direct tv needed to check to see if our equipment needed updating. We were a loyal customer and they didn’t want us to lose our tv service. Asked for our passcode and last four digits of social. Eventually asked for a credit card to pay for the software that they would refund back to me in 6 months.

Said they were from Direct TV and wanted to know if I was having any problems with my reception in the past few weeks. Of which I was having problems several yes ago and reported to Direct TV myself. As soon as I answered yes the call terminated or dropped. I tried to call the number back several times. Each time I called automated message, for English press 1 then the call would end.

They call from multiple numbers sometimes 1800 and the one above for ex. If you answer you get this

“Dear DirecTV customer your existing account with us is qualified to receive up to 50% discount on your bills. So, press one now to speak with our customer support representative to discuss the details and do mention your promo code eBay”

If you aren’t home they leave u a message if u call back they id self as Direct TV.

I actually fell for this, they asked me for my PIN number direct tv and att uses to get into account. After I gave it to them I realized I was dumb. I immediately changed my pin and contacted both att and direct tv

Receiving calls from the above number. People are pretending to be from Direct TV Tech Support. They say they are calling about a service request that was made to them by me about an account I have and to upgrade the account. They are wanting credit card, address, email, name, etc provided to them for verification. FIRST... I do not have an account with Direct TV. SECOND... I am not going to give my personal information to someone who threatens to do all types of things with my credit and account if I don't tell them the information they want.

I am also reporting this to my local police department and filing an official report with FTC, along with blocking the phone number.

On 1/10/2019 I received an email to contact 1-888–358-3751 to lower my Direct TV bill by 50% using promo code eBay. I contact them and followed the direct t.v. Prompts. They explained they could lower my bill to 40.00 per month from 80.00 and in addition give me all the movie channels at no extra charge for 2 years. They said Direct TV has a contract with eBay and all I have to do is pay 240.00 up front and I would not get billed by direct T.V for 6 months, after the 6/months I would pay 40.00 per month. I am to get 2 eBay cards.. 1 for 200.00, the other for 40.00. I said..nope this doesn’t sound right. They said, for skeptics like you...turn your t.v.on. I did. They said go to your HBO, Cinemax, showtime etc... I did.. Suddently all my movie channels were there and activated. That is what made me a believer. This turned out to be a scam...after I sent them the 240.00 with the eBay cards. I contacted Direct TV they denied the promotion...they gave me the fraud line and I reported it to make sure they were not billing me for those channels. I am upset that Direct TV can be hacked so easily!

Received text claiming to save 50% on Direct TV for next 2 years. My bill would now be $350 a month for 2 years and all I needed to do was pay 1st 3 months up front ($1,050). I needed to go to one on a list of stores ask for EBay card and load 1,050. Call a number to redeem card and my next payment of 350 would start in 3 months. “This offer ends today so you must do this before 8:00 tonight.”

I knew it sounded like a scam when I had to go to a store and get an EBay card.

I got a text message from what I thought was Direct TV. I called the number and it sounded just like ATT. I was offered half off my TV bill if I paid up front for four months with an EBAY card. It wasn't Direct TV and I'm out $760.

Answered a text message offering 1\2 price service from Direct tv. Required up front payment with a money order obtained from a local business. Realized it was a scam and hung up. He knew too much information about our TV service. We reported it to Direct TV.

I have been receiving harassing and threatening phone calls from someone claiming to be a third party with DIRECTV for the last 13 months. They initially start out speaking to me very nicely and when I decline the offer I get cussed out, told that he’s going to come rape me, etc. Direct TV isn’t doing anything and will not hold themselves accountable for what’s taken place. Clearly there’s been a security breach and it happened sometime last year. Yesterday when they called he stated that he had all of my account information. Wanting to see how true this was I played stupid and had him verify my information and did not give him anything. He responded back and verified my phone #, address as well as my DIRECT TV ACCOUNT NUMBER. He also gave me his “direct number” (210-988-0227) yet this time they called from 1-800-490-4388 (that number appears to be linked up to a company called Bandwidth.com based out of San Antonio). One guy went by the name Robert and the other guy went by the names Martin and Mark. He stated that I was talking to a white person on the phone. He also admitted they’re a third party and calling to offer me a discount because of all of the issues with Direct TV cutting out, poor internet quality, etc. I told him I’m not sure if I’m going to stay or not and told him I will call him back after I think about it and decide to stay. Both males I spoke to had foreign accents and broken English.

We received a phone from a person claiming to be from Direct TV. We were offered a special deal for $10 per month to receive all the sports and movie channels that we currently don't subscribe to. We were instructed to go to Walgreen's and purchase an Ebay gift card for $350.

Called by a fake rep Who claimed he was from Direct TV who explained a promo. If I went out and bought a Amazon Gift Card for $280.00 and called a special NBR back 888-860-3644 and give them the code 1-2DX36 My bill would be guaranteed for 2 years at $59 a month. Sounded too good to be true so I called Direct TV at the number I usually do and found out that there is no promo with Amazon.

Yesterday we received a phone call from a representative of Direct TV. The purpose of the call was to advise us that Direct TV was

upgrading all of their TV receivers. We hung up then called the caller ID# and yes, we got a Direct TV announcement. So immediately

we received another call this time the caller identified himself as a supervisor and giving us the same spiel. They wanted info from our

TV such as serial #, receiver#, etc. After all that was recorded, they said it would cost $99. but that would be charged after the activation.

They gave us an activation # to call (1-800-388-6597). When we called that another Direct TV announcement played. So we assumed

that it was Direct TV. Finally, they read off all our personal information i.e. address, email address and said that our credit card that they

had on file was had expired and in order to process this they asked, and yes, got our new number, date, and 3 letter code. After hanging

up they called again to give us a technical support # (1-888-526-3721). Now, 24 hrs. later we just received a call from AT&T saying that

there had been a strange call to them and they were warning us that it sounded suspicious. They advised us to cancel our credit card.

We called VISA to do so. Yet, strangely, there had been no unusual activity on our account. Our question and concern is why this elaborate

"scam" yet no use of our VISA? Can you tell us what other type of information were they after? Can they access anything else?

The phone # that they used originally is 1-888-777-2454. When you call this number you get the same Direct TV message. But I called

the number of Direct TV on our bill and gave them that number and they have no listing. Can you help us figure out what they were after?

Caller (George) says we qualify for special DirectTV promotion which includes the NFL Pkg, all the premium channels & internet for $59.99 for 2 years. In order to get special promotion we have to pay bill 5 months in advance by buying an eBay gift card for $300 to also promote EBay internet business. The special promotion would pay the bill for July through November.

I received a phone call in which the caller claimed to be calling on behalf of Direct TV with a promotion by Amazon. In exchange for paying four months of service with an Amazon gift card ($250.00), I would receive a discount on my Direct TV bill for two years. They used details that rang true - "Direct TV is now with AT&T," "you have been a customer for a long time," and offered sweeteners - "You'll receive premium channels for free" and "If you call back today with your gift card, you will be entered in a chance to win a $100.00 Visa gift card." If it sounds too good to be true it's too good to be true.

Received called which appeared on caller ID as "Direct TV." Caller was offering a promotion whereby Direct TV and Ebay had entered into an agreement and was offering the promotion to current Direct TV customers. Promotion would lower customer's monthly charges. However, 5 months must be paid for in advance to receive the discount. Because Ebay had partnered with Direct TV, the 5 month advance payment had to be paid with Ebay Gift Card(s). Scammer even provided a promotion code and a payment reference number. An appointment date and time was established. However, when a service person did not come, I called Direct TV only to find out that no one was aware of any such promotion. It was all a scam!

- Jarrell, TX, USA

I received a call from someone claiming to be from Direct TV, offering a reduced rate of $69.99 per month for 2 years. This rate included all of the channels in my current plan, plus 40 premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc.) at no additional charge. I asked about NFL Sunday ticket, and was told that it would be included for 2 years at no charge.

I was transferred to a supervisor, who explained that I needed to buy an Amazon gift card for $280 (the first 4 months pre-payment), and then call Direct TV billing department, to take advantage of the offer and get it started. The number she said to call is 1-888-564-0494.

I was told that if I signed up today, that they would send me a $100 Visa gift card.

As I was talking to the supervisor, my co-worker searched online and discovered that this was a scam. I told the caller that I knew that it was a scam, and she thanked me for my time, and hung up.
