They had an advertisement on Facebook claiming that they were a Dick's Sporting Goods Store that was shutting down one of their warehouses in California and because of that they were selling off all their water vehicles (mainly kayaks and paddle boards) at unbelievably low prices. However they claimed the sale was only for a limited time. Falling for the scam, my first sign something was up was the fact they claimed customers could only purchase 2 products at a time. After that, my second sign was how when we looked at making a second purchase I realized that regardless of how low the actual sales price of everything ended up being, they jacked up the shipping every time so that the total came out to just under $30 every time. Luckily this deterred me from ordering a second time. After processing the original order however, everything seemed fine. I got a confirmation email and a tracking number. When the package failed to show up within the allotted 5 to 7 days they claimed, that's when I started getting worried. It was at this point that I looked up the tracking number and found that they had apparently "shipped" the products from China, not California as originally stated. I continued checking the status of the package, watching as it appeared to travel from China, through Customs, to California, only to be "Delivered" on October 5th at 6pm... Funny thing is, I saw this update for it's "supposed" delivery at 7am on October 5th... Because that makes sense. I went to send them an email to their supposed customer service department ([email protected]) when I finally decided it was time to check if it was a scam or not and sure enough, it came up as being one on Google. Sigh. I feel very dumb for falling for this, but luckily we already cancelled the card used to purchase these products because we started seeing some strange charges for Dropbox of all things. Anyways, my hope is that this report can help other people not fall for this same scam.
