This company contacted me about a Emergency Room visit I made several years ago. They had the last 4 digits of my social security number and the date of the accident. They knew it was a vehicle accident. I had no record of a bill for the amount given. We had originally obtained a lawyer after the accident. We gave him a copy of every bill we received from the accident. When we settled, he paid every bill from the settlement amount. Fast forward 5 years later and my husband and I received a call from a number claiming to be DFS in Jonesboro, AR. They stated they had the bill in collections and asked how we wanted to settle the bill. They kept asking me if the information was correct. I replied that I did not know. I told them that I would check with my lawyer and get back to them. They became extremely rude and kept insisting that they would be turning the collection over to the credit agencies to go on my report. After ending the call, I verified with my lawyer that the bill to that company had been paid. I called the number back from a different phone and was told that I had reached a different financial service called Halstead Financial. Any time I call from my number, it goes to a lady claiming she is from DFS, but other numbers go to other financial services. They are always very rude.
