Person on phone posed as an agent of the Social Security Department

Asking for ss# so he can process some money credits

- San Francisco, CA, USA

Voicemail gave a purported case number, ask to call them back to discuss “the case and take necessary action on this matter. If they don’t hear from me, the will be forced to take legal action.” When I called the number, the person who answered with an Indian accent said “thank you for calling the Department of Social Security”. I hang up as I knew it was a scam.

- Toledo, OH, USA

They called saying they were the department of social security. That my social security number was cancelled due to fraud activities. I had to press 1 to hear details. A foreign speaking man answered and I hung up. Obviously a scammer but I didn't go further

Thank you."

- Tunas, MO, USA

I received a call from Maryland, the caller left a voicemail. It was automative it said they are with the social security administration and there was suspicious activity with my social number and they have suspended my numbers for information about the case hit 1. That was the end of the call no call back number no information about my "case" no name for a person to call back to ask questions too.

- Phenix City, AL, USA

- New Albany, OH, USA

First there is a call that comes from 956-508-6957 (I let mine go to voicemail because I didn't recognize the Texas number). The robo voice says: "I want you to know about this case just press one. This call is from the Department of Social Security Administration the reason you have received this phone call is to inform you that we just suspend your social security number because we found some suspicious activity so if you want to know about this case just press one thank you." Then they send a text from the same number saying "What's up?"

- Memphis, TN, USA

I received a phone call from an unknown number and the caller left a robo voicemail stating

my SSN had been suspended due to suspicious activity and it instructed to Press 1 for information.

The recording stated it was from the "Department of Social Security Administration".

My 21 year old daughter received multiple calls from this number yesterday leaving voicemails each time telling her to call them back before they start "legal action". I called the number back and immediately the foreign man asks for my full name, I refused. I informed him he called me and I want to know why he called me first before I give any information to him. He stated they have found that my social security has been used fraudulently and needing more information from me so they can pursue legal action against the theft. I asked him how I know this isn't a scam and he gave me his name "Alexander ***" and his badge number ***, then asked for my info. I informed him that him telling me that doesn't prove anything and he said you have my name and badge now give me your name and information. I informed him I would not and will be contacting my local SS office in the morning to validate this claim. Call was ended. I will be contacting the SS office today.

The message stated, "This call is from the Department of Social Security administration the reason you have received this phone call from our department is to inform you that we just suspend your social security number because we found some suspicious activity so if you want to know about this case just press one thank you."

There was a voicemail left to call 361-208-0244 with a reference number that was left on voicemail (but the voicemail did record the full message with the number) and ended with "Before we proceed with legal proceedings". I called the number from a different phone half an hour later and it first went to a voicemail. I called again a few minutes later and someone with an accent answered. She stated she was with the Department of Social Security in San Antonio and asked for my reference number. I told her the voicemail cut it off, She then asked what time the call was received. I asked for the address of the company and I couldn't understand the full address but got 3428 E South(?) and that's all. When I started questioning her more, she stated if I didn't believe her to hang up. So I did,

- Omaha, NE, USA

I did not answer or call the person back. But, it is a recorded voice telling me, on the first call, that I need to call them "Immediately" to avoid having my social security number "suspended," and my bank accounts frozen. I got a second voicemail telling me that they suspended my social security number due to "suspicious activity," and to press one to find out more about this case. The first call came up under (209) 260-8796 (Herald, CA). The second call came up as "unknown," on my cell caller ID. I did not buy this for a second. Figured it was a scam.

This message was left in my voicemail box:

“This call is from the Department of Social Security administration the reason you have received this phone call from our department is to inform you that we just suspend your Social Security number because we found some suspicious activity so if you want to know about this case just press one thank you…”

The message was left two days in a row, from different numbers

Robo call to cell phone left voicemail stating "This call is from the Department of Social Security administration, the reason you have received this phone call from our department is to inform you that we just suspended your Social Security number because we found some suspicious activity, for information about the case press #1."

- Owings, MD, USA

Just received a call and voice message from 888-810-0504. Was a robocall identified as coming from the Department of Social Security, and informing me that the Department has suspended my social security number due to potential fraudulent activity. I was to press 1 or return call to find out more. I researched this as a potential scam and saw MANY other similar stories. I did not call back or press 1. Simply reported the scam here. As this relates to social security, the scammer would have asked for financial or other personal information if I did follow up.
