Department of Education Reports & Reviews (9)

I received a letter in the mail in regards to Student Loan Consolidation & Payment Reduction (student loan forgiveness). On 8/5/22 I called the phone number 1-866-260-7609. I spoke to an agent named Maria Parra. her phone number 855-269-7101. She informed me about the student loan forgiveness program. She asked for my email, benefit ID# on the letter, verified my address, and social security. She sent me an email with a link to studentaid.gov. She told me to download a link that displayed student loan information. She then asked for income information to complete the student loan forgiveness program. She said she will ask her supervisor if I qualified for the program. She put the headset down but did not turn off the headset so I could hear the background. I started to get really suspicious about the call. Maria then transferred me to her supervisor named Karon. He said I was approve for a partial forgiveness program. I told him my loan is with Mohela. Karon said this is a better program and my payments will be $188.44 for ten years but I will have to make five month payments of $289 starting 8/12/22, 9/12/22,10/12/22, 11/14/22, 12/12/22, and 1/12/22. Karon told me the reason why for these payments is to cover fees. I asked about the fees. He replied processing fees. I told him I want to think about it and talk to my wife. He was persistent asking or AC approval. I would not give it to him. I inform I need to think about it. He said if I don't call back within the same day I would have to start a new application. I googled the company's name but no record and showed student loan scams. I then googled the phone number with no results. This is why I am reporting and making a complaint. I do have the and the email address as evidence.

In order for you to qualify you must apply within the next 24 hours or you will not be able to have your student loan payment reduced. Please contact us at 888-307-0680. The number again is 888-307-0680. Once again, you must get involved within the next 24 hours. Thank you..."

I call back and ask to be removed from their list from a blocked number, they tell me they'll remove me and hang up.

I've called from a blocked number and questioned if they are the Department of Education, then I'm told no. They are scamming people to consolidate student loans. Which, by the way, I've already done.
