Several days ago I contacted Amazon (at least I thought I was contacting Amazon) using a phone number I found on line. I had an issue with an order that I wanted to discuss. The customer support person (now I know he wasn't one) I got said he had to check my account. He came back saying a hold had been put on my account because it looked like someone in Germany was trying to access my account. He then said I needed to talk with tech support to look into the problem. I was dupped into letting him access my computer to check the network. He told me my firewall had been breached and there were many others having access to my network and informationl He showed me there had been several thousand "hits" and I needed to have this problem fixed. This led to being transferred to several different "tech" people (all with, I believe Indian accents) and thru a place called Cicso to finally Deltron. I am a single woman who doesn't know that much about all of these things so of course I was very nervous about all of this. However, these so called techs were quite good at patiently reminding me that they didn't call me but I had called them. The upshot of this whole thing was I allowed them access to my computer, they were in in about an hour and (after my computer was fixed??) they asked for a check for 499.99. Before moving forward on anything I called Deltron to see if they were a legitimate company. That didn't really give me any confidence because I realized if they were a scam they would tell me that one of their reps did do work in my computer. Luckily I didn't give them anything and said I would pay within three days. They sent me an invoice and it still sits on my desk because I will not pay it. After I got off the phone with them I checked with the ScamPulse.com and of course found several experiences/complaints such as mine and from one of those I was able to get a "real" number for Amazon. Of course I called them right away and asked if there had ever been a "hold" placed on my account and they said no. That confirmed it for me and when I got a call from a Deltron person (I'm assuming in response to my checking up on them) I told them flat out that I found out they were a scam and that I was going to report them to the ScamPulse.com and call my local sheriff. I blocked their number and if they try to call me on a different number I will do likewise. My only issue is, what did they do in my computer for that hour? I will change all my passwords and hope everything will be okay. If not I guess I will take that 499.99 and buy a new computer.
