My husband and I were searching for a rental home and were referred by a friend to a craigslist ad. I was hesitant knowing how dishonest most people are on craigslist, but decided to try it. The house was listed by [email protected] as the contact. The information appeared like a normal listing. Once we replied to the e-mail address, a different lady replied. Her name was listed as "Delores W" and e-mail is [email protected]. Her reply seemed good. In her reply she said that we would need to do a credit check that sent us to transunion. She said that they don't give the exact address of the place due to people breaking into their other rentals. This was a red flag to me. We went to the neighborhood where the house was said to be located and found the one that was pictured on the website. No sign was in the yard. They said that they had been doing updates to the house so it was not listed yet. They said if our credit score was over 540 that they would waive the security deposit. This seemed to be another red flag. They have not asked for any money, but since they have not replied to our e-mails about seeing the home it would seem to be a scam. They even mentioned that we could pick the color of the paint on the walls and the flooring. It seems too good to be true and I hope that they cannot steal any of our information from our credit report.
