Dell Inc imposter Reports & Reviews (1)

- Catonsville, MD, USA

Greetings,

I purchased a Dell computer in December 2016. After a month of having the computer it was hacked. I contacted Dell and they were able to clear the matter. The computer has Norton on it to protect against malware.

Moving forward to, two days ago (August 2017) the computer was moving slow and froze. I contacted Dell's tech support which is located in India. I gave permission for them to take over the computer. Nothing was found on the computer. The tech sent me an email stating if I had any issues to call a 879 number. I did some research on the number and people had complained that the number was a scam.

Within an hour the computer froze by Microsoft, stating that it has a virus on the computer and to contact them. These were the same people who hacked the computer previously. Remember the computer was scanned and nothing was found. Left a message with the tech that helped me. He responded that I need to contact another support, but there will be a charge. Now I am contacting yet another tech support person in India. He starts on giving me a price list of malware products that I need to put on my system. As I am telling him that I have a warranty for the computer and Norton already install. The price that is given has changed. It starts off $299 to $199 and then finally $99. He asked why don't I want to protect my computer. All the while he is talking to me he telling me to reboot the computer and press B12. Then he says we can note your file about adding a malware protector for a charge. The tech said my problem will occur again, maybe this month or two months later. At this point the warning notice has been lifted and the number that Microsoft had given out had been disconnected. I also told the tech about the number that was given and he said it is 877 instead of 879.

I want to add that I called the Microsoft number before I called the tech support. Coincidentally it is located in India. Remember I did not have a warning notice until the Dell tech took over my computer. Also I tried to fill complaint with Dell, but you will be directed to a person in India. There is no one you can speak to in the United States and if you continue to ask question about it, you will be transferred and then hung up on.

My gut feeling is that Dell has people working on both sides. They are helping the scammers to get more money out of you and you will only be complaining to people that are doing it.
