Dell Customer Support Reports & Reviews (1)

- Guthrie, OK, USA

In January, my daughter's laptop stopped booting up so I went on Google to look up Dell Support. I clicked the first website listed, not realizing that it was a sponsored ad. I called the number 855-898-0361(this number is now used for some hotel service...or so it appears) and spoke to a person who spoke as if he worked for Dell. He told me the computer had been infected with malware and I would need to have the hard drive replaced. He also said that, because the hard drive itself wasn't defective (I believed my daughter had clicked on something that allowed malware to be installed), that it wouldn't be covered under warranty and I would have to pay for a new version of Windows...to the tune of $799.99.

He also told me that he could have software installed that would protect our whole network and all computers on it from malware. So I gave him remote access to another laptop. They installed malware bytes but apparently didn't run it. In addition, he left a document behind as a means to contact them. It has the tech support number for remotespecialists.com and the email address for the same company.

A few days later the money was debited from my bank account and the "check" was made out to a company called "Innovology, Inc."

I never bothered to report this except that someone has called me in the last couple of days offering a refund.
