Dell Computers Imposter Reports & Reviews (1)

- San Mateo, CA, USA

Impersonated Dell Technical Support, with the name Michael Ross, saying Dell was having trouble sending routine updates. Gained access to my computer and claimed he could see that someone had hacked in. They needed advance payment to send a technician to my house to install anti-hacking hardware (which I also had to pay for in advance). Claimed my credit card was vulnerable if given over the phone and requested payment in store gift cards. Showed me an electronic copy of a legitimate looking cashier’s check (from Chase) that the technician would give me on arrival for reimbursement. Total loss of $6500.
