Caller claimed to be from Delaware County Sheriff (Ohio). Lt. ***** ****** name was given. Caller said they had active warrants for my arrest. Said they were at their desk phone and would call back from the main number of the Sheriff's office. They did that, and asked me to google that number; that number did come back to the Delaware County Sheriff. Proceeded to give me two case numbers; one for failure to appear in court on 3/14/2023 and another for contempt of court. Told me I would be arrested if I didn't go to local sheriff to take care of this as a civil matter or it would turn into a criminal matter and I would be arrested. Gave me my former address where the notice to appear document was supposedly delivered, and said they had a copy of it with my signature. I have recently moved from Ohio to Georgia and they knew my new address already. They said I could file charges against the person who signed it, but I needed to take care of this matter or be arrested. They told me I could not break contact with them, I needed to leave work and drive to the sheriff. They wanted the make/model/license plate number of the car I am driving. Then they told me I needed to leave work and head to my car and drive to the sheriff office, but before I did that I would have to pay $1250.00 for the fines for these warrants. It told them I would not do it over the phone. They became insistent that I paid it through a cash app. That is when I became suspicious and hung up. I called the sheriff's number, and they said that this was a scam and their number had been spoofed, and this was going on the past two weeks. I am usually savvy to these kind of ploys, but I was within an inch of transferring money when I listened to my gut instinct. Glad I did.
