I was told that we had an outstanding debt and that we needed to pay it. It was my husband's debt, but they never contacted him. Just me, his father and his step mother. We had already paid this debt off back in 2017, so I was unsure why it was still "showing up" on our credit. The lady that was always the one contacting me, going by the name Serena, had a lot of personal information on me. She told me they would put a lean against our home, garnish my wages and that they were going to take me to court. I even called the company we had paid back in May 2017, and they confirmed we had a zero balance. After talking with my husband and realizing that something weird was going on, we decided to ignore it, assuming it was a scam. Then she called my place of work and told them that they wanted to serve me papers, but because I work at a school they didn't want to scare the children and that I needed to go to the sheriff's office to pick it up. I called the sheriff's department later that day and was told there was no paperwork for them to serve me and that this was a scam. I ignored all calls from the scam company after that, and have not received any new calls since February 14, 2024. This "debt" (that, again, we had paid off in May 2017) was never mine. It was my husband's from before we had even met, but not once was he contacted on this. So why would they have any legal grounds to serve me papers? The constant phone calls with these scare tactics for about two weeks was extremely stressful.
