I am looking to move to a different state. I got in contact with this "lady" through a website and we started to converse via email and then through text message. She said she was a landlord in different areas and she was willing to work with me on getting the house. I thought I did everything right, confirming that the house was a real address and actually where it was said to be, she had a picture on her gmail account and seemed very personal. When we were going through the process, of doing an application - which asked for SSI, Drivers license, I figured it was routine and normal. Well when I made arrangements to have family go check out the house and do a tour, something happened to this person and had to reschedule. However, my family still went to check out the house. As my family went to this house, it was vacant but they bumped into tenants in the back of the house, in a different property. My family started to ask questions and through talking, found out that we had been scammed. I didn't want to " spook" the scammer and still talked to them to see if I could get back out of the house as I changed my mind. They were still responsive until today, the next day, and I haven't heard anything back. I just would like others to be aware and not do the same mistakes I did.
