I found a free harp on facebook marketplace and inquired about it. I was skeptical about it being free because it was a very nice harp, but I thought they would tell me the actual price once I reached out. The person (Ruth Ramos) told me she made the post for her cousin (David Binder) and to email him which I did. He said the harp was his late wife's and he didn't want to sell it, but instead donate it and I would just have to handle the rerouting costs. He said someone else was supposed to get it but never showed for the moving company. He told me to use the moving company he hired (www.supermoverdeliver.com) and talk to them using the live agent chat. He gave me a reference code to give them as well. The company chat gave a list of delivery options from overnight ($900+) to 14-day shipping ($420) with insurance, but they would not answer my questions about payment plans or anything and just insisted on sending me the invoice and to pay through paypal. Credit cards required a purchase of $1000+. Nevertheless I unfortunately gave them my phone number and address to find out the delivery fee. When I asked "David" about using a shipping company of my choice, he sent a long winded and confusing email full of grammatical emails and irrelevant information, all while insisting on using his own movers since the harp was on its way to storage in North Dakota. When I questioned this and insisted on using a moving company that specialized in transporting harps to pick it up from the storage unit and to speak over the phone to discuss arrangements, he didn't respond. I realized it was a scam when the paypal invoice said to make the payment through family and friends and the fact that $420 for transporting a large, delicate, and renowned instrument across states seems pretty low considering thats how much it costs to transport a piano across the city. My dreams got the best of me...

Thank you for sharing your experience. I almost fell victim to a similar scam while responding to a post about a free violin. I was provided a different email address ([email protected]) but the attempt was the same - a Doctor who is looking to donate her late husband's violin to a special someone and directed me to supermoverdelivery.com with a referral code. Something didn't seem right when the agent stated my payment for rerouting must be sent by Family & Friends instead of Goods & Services. So I tried googling the company and I found your post which confirmed my suspicions.

Again, thank you for sharing your experience and this should be communicated more widely!
