This company “hired” me as an independent contractor working as a teacher/ private tutor. They were eager to hire me, and had me commit to a verbal agreement the day of our interview. They were not interested in a written contract, and became upset when I asked various questions such as “Is there minimum hours guaranteed?” “What dates can i expect to have my schedule filled by?”. They presented two opportunities to me. The first being as a private in home instructor at $56 per hour. The verbal agreement made at the beginning was that they had a family placement for me at 3-4 hours per week. The second opportunity was to work in the “school” as a “level-up” teacher for $30 per hour. Which essentially meant providing supplementary support to their students with various subjects. I spent a week training online and then two days in school (4.5 hours total) training for the level up position. They called me the next day to tell me that they currently had no placements for me, I was not a good fit for the level up position, and they would notify me if in the future when there were more opportunities available. They did not specifically state they did not want to work for me, but rather at the current time they had no available placements for me with any of their students. This is contradictory to the verbal agreement we had over zoom, which we agreed to at least four hours a week in private tutoring hours. They also made various other promises such as possibility for full time positions, and working as a lead teacher by November. Overall the company was extremely unprofessional, did not follow through on their promises, and in the end wasted my time significantly. They took all of my private information as well.
