Was sent this text message from the number 440-855-7482 on 8/17/2020. I knew it was a scam. I have been sent the message before and just deleted it. I decided to report it this time. I can only imagine how many people fall for this because the need is there and people are desperate.

Applied to be a mystery shopper with a completely separate company and am now realizing it’s all connected. received a certified mail package with a check and instructions for my “first shop”. I was to deposit the check keep 300.00 for commission and use 1500.00 to purchase 3 Best Buy gift cards for 500.00 each and write a report based on my experience . To be fair at this point I feel like a total [censored] for having not seen the big RED signs screaming at me but no I followed the directions including sending proof that they were bought (should been a huge red flag) but again I followed directions. Now the gift cards are emptied and I’m out the 1847.00 for this check and had I been a little smarter I would have shredded the damn envelope and blocked all communications. I have filed multiple reports including a police report regarding the gift cards, hoping to either get reimbursed for them or hoping to catch the [censored]s who went into stores and purchased with the numbers.
