A woman named Sharon said she was "only trying to help me so that I wouldn't have my bank accounts and social security number frozen by the county. She demanded that I pay $300 to make it go away, or I'd end up paying $3k or more in lawyer fees.

Red flags:
1. When I saw the missed call and called back, "tech support" answered the phone instead of a live agent (WHERE DO THEY DO THAT?)
2. This bogus claim came outta nowhere.
3. I didn't have a Bank of America account in 2014. I was a stay-at-home mom and not even working at the time.
4. They used my maiden name which I haven't used over the past 15 years.
5. I'd never received any written notices via mail.
6. I was being rushed to pay a debt that I knew wasn't mine, and the time frame went from a number of days down to end of business day, or I world get reported to the county (which by the way, she couldn't even properly pronounce the name of).
7. When I told her I don't just pay money out over the phone without first having something in writing, she pretty much told me having something in writing doesn't matter because this is time sensitive.
8. Finally, she said she would send me an email with official notice of the debt. I NEVER RECEIVED AN EMAIL.

Tip to those who may be gullible: NEVER pay out money over the phone without first having VALID WRITTEN PROOF of claim authenticity.

This people call from all sorts of numbers dead giveaway its not right Normally someone always picks right up red flag No automated system and no pre recorded message that states Im being recorded But they claim the phone call is They say I had a loan from cash net or ace cash express Saying that they are pressing charges against me for not repaying loan and the account is closed Long story short they harass you If so I should have recieved legitimate paperwork and it would be local Not a call from Texas New York Delaware and MD They call outside of business hours And claim they arent trying to force you But when you deny them they still harass you Ive asked several times to stop contacting me Smh

I GOT A CALL FROM 1-650-822-1510 STATING I OWED $300 FROM A PAYDAY LOAD FROM CASHNET. IT FELT LIKE A SCAM SO I ASKED TO BE SPEAK WITH THE ACCOUNT DEPARTMENT. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE MAN HE BECAME VERY RUDE AND TOLD ME IF I DIDNT GIVE HIM MY CARD NUMBER HE WOULD HANG UP AND FILE THE PAPER WORK TO THE COURTS. THEY ALSO STATED I COULD SETTLE IF I PAID $200 ON THE SPOT. I CALLED CASHNET WHICH I DID GET A LOAD IN 2016 BUT THEY SOLD THE INFO TO A DIFFERENT COMPANY WTH A DIFFERENT NAME. IM STILL CONFUSED, ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS HAPPEN FROM A PLACE CALLED DAVID & THOMPSON

Got a call from 970-401-6869 saying I owed an online loan company money. It was 980 dollars. They gave me an address I haven't lived at for 15 years. The number is a colotado number yet no licensed firm under that name. There was a lot of background noise as well. I explained I didn't owe this money and the are out of the statue of limitations for where I live anyway and than they told me a us Marshall was going to come out. I told them to send them and making threats like that was also unlawful collection practices and than I was told I would be marked as a refusal.

Got a call from a local number,, so I answered it,, firstly the lady told me I had a debt to pay from Nov 2019 from a bank account that has been closed since 2014,, secondly, she told me an amount, and i asked to talk to a supervisor, when I got the so called supervisor online, he told me the previous woman called about a covid relief WRONG, then he proceeds to tell me oh I'm sorry you owe x amount of money, which was way less than the previous lady told me, they told me they have been sending notices in the mail to my current address,,,NOPE,, then proceeds to tell me they have been trying to contact me through email,,WRONG, they were really giving me attitudes when I told them this sounds like a scam, they really got mad when I asked for a copy to send to an email address I currently use,, after I seen the email, I looked it up online, and told them they were a scam,,,REALLY SET THEM OFF,bless there heart they were really sticking to the story,, I asked for a number for my attorney to get in touch with them,, they told me you have 24 hours to respond, and proceeded to hang up without giving me a number

Received a call (586-788-1938) from a person claiming to be a litigator for david and thompson that I had a judgment against me since 2019 to pay towards a loan from an advance loan payment place called fast advance claiming I borrowed money online something I have never done to be routed to a bank I used to bank with over a millennium ago. I asked them for proof of debt they sent me a verification of debt letter with my name spelled wrong and a former address. I asked them for the bank information of where the supposed funds were sent, they send that this would be given to me at discovery., but that this matter could be resolved if I paid the settlement judgment of $611 all I had to do was sign the verification of debt letter. so I asked him how how he could file a case in court against me for check fraud if my do process was violented because I never received a collections paperwork?

Received a call from a copy advising that I had a judgment against me since 2016 to pay towards a loan from an advance loan payment place. Looked up the number 855-433-6338 given and found other stories similar to the call I had.

Just received a call from law firm David and Thompson regarding a supposed $500 loan from paydaynowforyou from 4/2019. Went through every bank statement from 2019 and could not located this deposit, even called my bank to verify. No findings. Rep from David and Thompson told me I could settle today with no court for $936.18 and that once the day ended, they could not stop and further proceedings. I could not find a legit paydaynowforyou website and asked for the number of the company but was not given the number only transferred and coincidentally they have the same hold music as the supposed law firm. No one could provide me with original documents only threatened with court. Could not find any BBB ratings for paydaynowforyou or David and Thompson with phony looking web page davidandthompson.com. Then offered $300 settlement with paydaynowforyou. I declined. Take me to court with these bogus loan.

This supposed mediation firm called me to settle a negotiate a $500 loan that I supposedly took out. They had the last 4 of my social and gave me an old address. When I questioned the details they told me to call The Cashline(where I supposedly took out the loan) corporate. I have never heard of The Cashline. The number they provided was 1-855-433-6338. I found The Cashline on the internet and this is not their number. The rep from “David and Thompson” first told me she believed I was a Vostok of identity theft. By the time the call was ending she told me that this was my debt, which I unequivocally denied. At this point the reps became increasingly nasty with me. Hardly the behavior of a mediation firm.

I have recieved several phone calls from a phone number in San Marcus, TX ( I live in Fort Worth, TX), regarding a past loan. When I answered the call, a man said he was from David & Thompson Law Firm. He told me I had taken out a loan in 2018 (from a company called "Dollar Financial"), and how would I like to pay for that ($347.02), and that they would be filing criminal charges on me in court. I was sceptical because, although I HAD taken out a loan, it was not with the one he named. I asked if it was under a different name, he said that was not in his notes. I asked for the location of his law firm, (Balitmore, MD). I asked why the phone number that called me was in TX. He said they had offices all over Texas, but did not know where they were located. I asked him to email me the details, and for the website address. I looked it up, and it was VERY generic and did not give any real information. I looked up just the name and there was nothing listed in Maryland OR Texas.
