I listed a horse trailer for sale on Craigslist. I was contacted via text message from a person claiming to have just moved from the area, but who still had belongings in my area and would like to purchase the trailer to be moved along with the other belongings. The person mailed me a cashiers check for $2275 to pay me and for me to pay the movers when they came to get the trailer. I deposited the check. I told the person that I needed to wait 5 days to make sure the check cleared before my horse trailer could be taken from my property. After a day, the person began contacting me frequently to ask if the check cleared, and today he claimed that it was urgent for me to wire the money to the moving company TODAY so that he could get his things b/c of some type of family emergency. I have not wired anything (thank goodness), but I highly suspect that this is a scam and that the check will come back, which means I would have been out the $1200 I wired to the "movers." The phone numbers from which I was contacted were (631) 729-1056 and (615) 956-0807. The name given was David and the company was New Life Ministries or something like that.
