I attempted to purchase gems from Dashrath International. When I put in my debit card number and information I was not asked for the three digit code on the back of the card. Sometimes I am asked for further information on the next page when making a purchase, so I didn't think anything of it. I hit enter. I got kicked off of my customer page and did not any type of verification that the order was received. I couldn't log back into my customer page. I didn't get any notice from my card that charges had come out. I emailed Dashrath customer service and was told that they were having issues with their web site. They had my order and just needed me to authorize the charge. They sent a screen shot of my customer page with a link to authorize the charge. I clicked the link. (stupid me should have looked and seen my debit card number is showing on the page, not just the last digits.) Again, no purchase verification. I emailed this concern to the person I was talking too. They told me they had fixed it and needed me to authorize the charge. I went to my customer page and authorized the charge. Again, no verification, I got kicked from the site and could not get back to my customer page. I went back to email customer service to cancel and had missed three or four requests to authorize charge. I emailed them back to cancel the order and told them I did not trust the site now. Mine and my husband's other charges to other businesses started showing pending or were flat out rejected. I called the card on Monday and was told our card had been cancelled for fraudulent activity. Several charges to a hotel in India were blocked. The name of the hotel? Dashrath. They had attempted 12 charges of $37 (I had only attempted 3 times to authorize the charge) in a matter of minutes. Thank God the fraud alert was activated. Our card was deactivated and a new one is on it's way. I didn't lose any money but easily could have. I will NEVER purchase online again from any business that does not ask for the code on the back of my card. I should have had my cackles raised sooner. I should have called my card on Monday instead of authorizing the charge by the email link. They could have helped. I would have cancelled immediately if I had known they were showing as a hotel. The website is very professional looking and easy to navigate. Customer service was nice. I was just stupid. I'm so grateful for fraud alert.
