This person sent a counterfeit check via FedEx overnight from *** *** *** *** ** *** *** *** Charleton MA 01507. The stamp on the overnight envelope that indicated that Fedex was to bill a third party. We talked to our credit union before depositing and explained that we were leery about the check and within a week they were able to determine that it was a counterfeit check. The scammer had prior to the time of the notification from the bank urged me repeatedly to withdraw funds and buy gift certificates with the cash removed from the account. He kept insisting that he sent "extra" money to pay movers to ship items. Fortunately, we were aware of the pervasiveness of this type of scheme and avoided being caught in a financial nightmare. I feel for those who might not be as savvy when conducting business online.
