Last month in mid April, I was contacted via email by someone named Dana Burgess she said that she was getting in contact with me via my application on LinkedIn. I had completed an interview with her on an app called RingCentral. I was a bit skeptical, so I did look up the company Meridian biosciences online and on LinkedIn. I did find the company’s website and I did find her information on the meridian bioscience company LinkedIn page, my nerves starting to clear, but then I started to notice that the emails that I was receiving were on West Africa Time (WAT) which sent me back a bit a day later I got an email saying that I was hired and I had to complete an assessment where I had to write an essay. They then told me that they were going to send me a check for my home office and I had to give them my address to confirm where my home office would be. I also had to send an email to “HR” ([email protected]) in order to be approved for that home office. Once I got the check for $2900 I realize that it was weird because the check was issued to Housing Authority. I called Housing Authority and they said that it was a scam and they have seen the checks that I was referring to since I’m not the first person that this fake company has tried to scam. I decided not to cash the check since it was a scam and the fake “Dana” contacted me again and asked me if I cashed the check I lied and I told her that I had handled it and then she had told me that I would have to send proof that it was cash which is also ridiculous so I didn’t answer her. She then emailed me again the following day, to which I still ignored her, and she hasn’t contacted me since.
