A potential buyer of my motorcycle emails from a Craigslist ad. They suggest I purchase a VIN report from a website they suggest before coming to see the bike (and they would pay me back). I purchase the report. Nothing comes for awhile. I get suspicious. I research and find out others have been 'phished' in this way:

And other similar websites either exist or have been shut down.

Many of them are based in Netherlands. This one has an Australian address and a Danish phone number when I researched them in more detail.

The potential buyer then disappears and voila, my money is gone. The VIN report did arrive, but it was a fake not associated with my vehicle.
