A Steven Hyland reached out to me, attempting to represent Crux Informatics. After a long interview process with Steven, I was emailed that I would be entered into their database as a remote worker. However, I felt the process was fishy. I contacted Crux and they forwarded the information to HR because apparently this Steven was not someone with their company and was falsely trying to get me to send him money for programs from a third party vendor.

There was a false contract that included a detailed job description, and other legitimate appearing paperwork such as direct deposit slips. There was much effort put into this scam, and "Steven" communicated with me for several days and put in a lot of effort to describe aspects of the false job. This effort is what put off a lot of my early suspicions. I figured a scammer would have moved on to easier cash grabs.

I saw issues with the way I was asked to pay for software from a third party, but I was not put in contact with the third party. Instead he asked for my Venmo, Zelle, or Cashapp. After a few hours of interviews and communications, I was surprised to see such informal payment options and this tipped me off that this person was probably misrepresenting the company.
