This scam had started off as an employment opportunity. Everything from the start just seemed fishy; from the emails such as the email address, the poor written emails and spelling mistakes, and the unprofessionalism of the emails. Then the text messages and phone calls started with odd hours for contact and the job itself just didn't sound like something that Crest would actually participate in. The job was to visit 2 local Walmart's to assess their customer service and at which time I would purchase a couple items at each store. Only 1 Crest item out of the 5 items to be bought. Then the way I would get paid. I was Expressed a check in the amount of a little over $2,000 which would cover the purchases and $400 for me to do the job. The check itself was surprisingly realistic but I knew something wasn't right. So I went online to search for this bank. First thing that I noticed was the bank address online never listed a P.O Box like the check had. The bank only listed the mailing address as being the same as the physical address. A couple more searches and found that this particular bank's name had been being used in check writing fraud. Not the bank, just people using it's name. I called the bank and sure enough, they did not issue that check nor did they have an account using that check number, which was also another telltale sign; the check number had an additional 3 to 4 more numbers than the given check numbers through the bank. Beware! Quit and easy money is more often than not TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! And no, I did not try to cash or deposit that check! I was not going to be a part of any scam. This scammer found me by way of an employment website, ex. Indeed, CareerBuilder.
