Someone called my elderly mother claiming to be from "TD Bank Membership Services". He quoted the 1st 4 digits of her credit and we assume he asked her to provide other details from the card. She does not recall but says he was quite convincing. He gave a name "Bobby Espinosa" or "Bobby Espinonza" and also claimed to be representing CDIC in some capacity. ****** **** ***** ****** ***** Shame on them for targeting the elderly.

I was asked first to purchase gift cards and when that didn't work, I was asked to withdraw money from my account that they supposedly deposited into my account and purchase bitcoin for them. What I didn't know is that they had my visa and transferred funds from my visa account into my chequing, had me withdraw funds from my chequing, and then buy bitcoin. They also informed me they had begun an investigation with the RCMP, but needed civilian assistance. They also said the cash was marked and that when the user would withdraw the funds, it would then be traced for the RCMP to be able to capture them. In the moment, I was so flustered because of how much was already I thought was taken from my account, I didn't even think how ridiculous my actions were: going to get gift cards, that bitcoin withdrawal could be done anywhere, that RCMP would use a civilian to do their work or that a bank would make personal calls. Kicking myself right now. I'm such an [censored].
