First, the scammer texts that I owe them money on an account that I never had in Simplii Financial. My mistake is I played along and texted Y when it asks if i have already paid my dues, just because I know I just paid my bills at that time. When I ignored subsequent texts, they started calling to collect on the debt, and I blocked those numbers. Then, they started sending me letters first informing me of delinquent accounts and then later, that they have submitted my account to CBCC (Credit Bureau of Canada Collections) and now it it CBCC that is now bugging me with letters, calls, and texts informing me of money I allegedly owe and that I should call back and negotiate. What is funny is, the account is under Simplii Financial/ CIBC they say, but the letter says the money owing must be paid in BMO only. I suspect these people were able to hack account names form the old Simplii Financial when it was still associated with President’s Choice Financial, and once they secured a name with a cellphone number, they randomly texted those persons. I know it is not real because I have 2 active accounts now with CIBC and I am in good standing with them for the longest time and I also keep track of my credit score regularly, and currently it is 820. If this scam is the real thing, I would have heard from CIBC and seen a change in my trans union score.
