We have been receiving numerous notices from what looks to be an official government notice or Tax Levy with a balance to pay and bold words all through it like "TO AVOID LEGAL ACTION..." and "PROPERTY SEIZURE IS IMMINENT" and phone number to call but no address. In fact it is a bogus notice sent out by scammers who have pulled information that is public record like tax liens. I called the number the first time I received the notice and after speaking with a man who I thought at first was a government agent, but quickly realized that he was not from the way he was talking to me. He was saying things like "they can close the doors on your business today" and that's when it occured to me ask him if he was a government agent of Iowa, because they would never talk that way. Then when he fumbled at the answer which was a "yes and no", I ended the call and contacted a real government agent of Iowa who was happy to help me resolve our tax payment which was $21.42 and not the $44K that was showing as a balance due on the scammers notice. We did in fact have a lien filed which is how they got our information, but it was quickly resolved. These guys are praying on unsuspecting people who may be late or unaware that they have an tax lien for whatever reason and are trying to scare them into paying of the balance saying that they can stop any seizures from happening immediately. If I had not already had some experience dealing with state agents and tax matters and if I was the owner of a small business instead of an employee who is obligated to ask as many questions as possible, I may have been scared into paying them.
