On September 14, 2016, a letter was received via United States Postal Service Priority Mail from Corporate Research International. Enclosed with the letter on thin paper, containing numerous typographical errors, and many inconsistencies, was an 'official check' for $1,950.49. The letter instructed the recipient, Independent Mystery Shopper, to deposit the check into their account, e-mail confirmation that deposit was made, wait 24 hrs., withdraw cash, deduct $125 for commission and $70 to cover Western Union and MoneyGram fees. The balance of $1,755 is to be used to "complete your secret shopping Assignments." The recipient is then asked to locate a MoneyGram store and a Western Union Store and send $877 each using 'money in minutes,' One by MoneyGram and One by Western Union to the same address in Corpus Cristi, TX. Once this has been completed, the recipient is asked to e-mail a report to the 'contact' and a telephone number to report to (by text message only). The recipient is also given specific instructions of how to answer questions, if asked, at both Western Union and MoneyGram stores. Recipient believes their address was obtained while utilizing an on-line job search company.
