The bottom of the email had several options, including "You can call me now". I clicked on that option and someone called me. They identified themselves as being with Flagstar Loan Modification department. They advised I was one of the few people who qualified for a loan modification this month. They advised I qualified for a 20% reduction in my current mortgage payment, .5% reduction in interest rate, and my loan maturity date would remain the same. They asked if I could pay the reduced payment that day (March 9). I advised them I could not until the end of the month. They advised they would post date payment for March 27 (or 29, don't remember which date). During the course of the conversation, I provided my name, date of birth, social security number, address and believe I provided my bank information. I was transferred to the first callers supervisor. The supervisor confirmed information I provided first caller and said he would cancel post dated payment information I previously provided to Flagstar (the real one) and would schedule their reduced payment instead. He said I would received confirmation by mail or email (don't remember which one he said). Both callers spoke with an accent that sounded like they were from India. Approximately 2 weeks prior, I had received a phone call from someone with the same sounding accent. That called was rude and said he had attempted to call me at least 2 different times. He said he was calling because I was in Default, I told him "no I am not". I asked him if he was looking at my account, he said "yes". Then he said you are on a loan modification, I told him "no I am not". Then he said you requested a loan modification, I told him "no I didn't". Then he said he would need to look at my account further and call me back. I did inform the real Flagstar about the call when I scheduled the post dated payment with them. In retrospect, I think the earlier caller was part of the same scam. He was using the scare tactic and was rude. The last two callers were polite and offered options to assist me. I have contacted my bank and changed my account numbers. I also froze my 3 credit bureau accounts as suggested by the police.</[email protected]>
