Received an email about a position for a VP of Operations. They indicated they say my profile on LinkedIn. In the initial communication, they shared the salary and general benefits. Asked for an updated resume. They next set up a Skype job interview, chat only and no video. I informed them of my interest and I was asked to complete a typical assessment questionnaire. After not hearing back, I asked for an update where I was informed that they were still in the interview process. A few days later I was informed that they would like to offer me the position and they sent over the new hire paperwork for my review. I had a Skype meeting (chat only, no video) to review the paperwork and ask questions. The paperwork indicated I would need to pay for computer equipment for their IT to install. They offered various methods including a wire transfer. As a wire transfer would be secure, I felt safe signing off on the paperwork, including a W4 form and also provided my direct deposit information. I then was getting Skype chat requests daily, no video. They then asked for the payment for computer supplies and wanted me to take money out of my bank, go to a bitcoin ATM, pay the 28% BTM fee, upload the bitcoin to a virtual wallet and they would then send me the vendor virtual wallet address. I had concerns about my physical safety and they continued to push. I raised concerns about why would a company pay such a high fee? They continued to push. I offered to purchase the computer equipment directly and they still would give an alternative. They then agreed to a wire transfer however, I declined and informed them that I was rescinding my job acceptance due to the multitude of red flags.
