I received a call, from Kelly Schneider, claiming that I may have a civil case in Lucas County Court regarding an unpaid payday loan from 2010 that now, with fees and interest, has $1000.00 owed. I stated that I have no loans from that time period and asked why, if I did, was I just now being notified about an unpaid loan from 5 years ago. I also stated that I filed bankruptcy in 2012, which would have included any debt I had outstanding at that time. She stated that this debt wasn't included in my bankruptcy and that this was the way that these companies made their money, by not collecting the last payments, letting fees and interest accrue for several years and then pursuing the loan, fees and interest. She then provided several options for paying back the loan, and stated that the payment would need to be made with a prepaid credit card. I also asked for the name of the lending institution and she started listing several companies, which I stated I had no knowledge or had done no business with them. She stated, in an irate manner, that she didn't know exactly which company it was, just that several companies were listed. She told me that if I could prove that I no longer owed the money, that I should go to mediation. I told her that if I wasn't aware of the loans, how could I prove anything. She recommended I take one of the payoff options. I am definitely leery of any business transaction that involves a prepaid Visa or MasterCard. Please investigate and inform me of your findings. I may want to escalate to a legal recourse. Thank you.
