Community Development Block Grant Reports & Reviews (16)

Got an Facebook from Agent Paul Smith SR saying that I woul received &150,000 if I purchase $800.00 in gift cards. I was scam.

Not willing to send refund now want me to signup for crypto account

A person hacked my friends account on Facebook trying to get me to apply for a grant

Scammers used a friend’s Facebook identity, and then their name on Messenger to contact me, telling me about “opportunity” to get money from a government grant. After a couple of days, I did text the phone number this “friend” gave me, and traded text messages with someone named “Paul *******”. The only information I gave him was my full name. He told me my “name had been randomly chosen, and that I was one of the lucky ones who won from CDBG International Monetary Program.” He then gave me my “lucky number”, my “serial number”, and my “reference number”, and told me that I should keep this information in a secure place. Then he told me he would be sending me a form to fill out so that the money could be delivered to me. I told him that I was uncomfortable giving information by text and he responded with “Don’t worried Your Information will be safe here. Okay” At that point, I was done with this and was certain this was a scam. He sent the form, which asked for the following (and I quote):

Name

Homeaddress

Worth of income

Gender

Age

Married

Married or single

Occupation

Email address

Do you want cash or check

Phone number

Needless to say, I did not “fill out and return the form”. I have been trying to reach my friend to find out if he knows his name is being used, but have not yet been successful.

These people have continued to message and text me about filling out the form and returning it (four times so far since yesterday morning).

I am blocking the phone number so they can no longer text me… will also block the messages today.

I was Messaged by a person whose pic is from my church. She said she got this and it was wonderful. I would need to text the number to contact a Thomas Williams and he would give me information. He asked for my name and address and like a dummy I give it to him, then he said that I was eligible for a Grant but I had to give my address again so FedEx could deliver money that is when I told him I didn't want to go further.

Hi i was told by someone that there a grant under Community development block grant. And that they help poeple with grants from the government. He ask for id n said he had to check with face book borad dector to see if i can get help he text back saying yes i was aprove when he text that I replied ok with what type of help did i get approved of. He replied saying they send out $$ to the winning people. Then sent a list of cash that i they can send me. But with a different number of fundes but also had a column of number of prices for the fee you have to pay the more you ask the more u pay a fee they cliam its to protect the cash and so tax wont be took out law informent wont ask were it came from.. So when i ask him if it was a scam he started to send me of videos of people who soupsely had got it (didnt really watch it) so i didnt thinking of it... well me trying to look for help n on rent n bills. I started to question him with about if it was a scam he relied with;

Ma’am this program is real and it’s supported by FBI and FBI will never support crime

Well tbh i though about it at first but im not sure if its a scam or not at this point. Well then he sent me a photo of a page that looks like a groverment paper. So again i keep my question repeated ask if he was a scame n just keep sending me “ Ma’am this program is real and it’s supported by FBI and FBI will never support crime”

so i ask him ok well what do i need to get help n he replied with that for $$300 i cant get 20,000 in help... well the preson who told me about it was kind of helping what to tell him cause this preson did it n got $$. But im not sure if this scamer/? Preson is real so he ask if i was ready to get the payment in i only paid half of $300 n told him i can do that and when the help comes thur i give you the other half in the morning like you cliam it will be. So he said ok thats fine well i ask again if it doesnt come can i get my money back he keeping say ma’ma it will be there at 8am well in the morning he text me this

“ No one have ever Paid delivery fee and have never gotten his or her money delivered to their doorstep. Your money will be delivered to you by 8am just make sure you stay at home (last text of the night)

Morning comes he text me again saying

“ Ma’am the board of directors don’t approve the FedEx team to make delivery to the people who don’t complete their delivery fee payment. He have to stopped 20 people delivery right now and your package is also part of it . Have been trying to fight on your behalf but he don’t accept my request. He said he has nothing to do unless you complete your payment because the people that don’t complete their payment is much. I will implore you to try an make your remaining payment so that your delivery will be approved by the board of directors”

So when i text back yes i was mad and told him off. He said as soon as you pay the remaining blances you will receive it in the next few hrs. Well now tbh i dont know if its real cause he said Our main office is in new York but we have some branch in Oregon, Nebraska and some state Our headquarters Is New York but we have some branch in Oregon, Nebraska and some state so if you can please tell me if im getting scam n how can i get my money back

I believe my aunt's FB page was used to send me a message to me about this program that will provide $100,000 for home improvements and that her and a friend received their checks. Once I contacted the guy by FB messager, I was told to go get gift cards worth $1500. I was told to scratch off the numbers on the back of the cards and take photos to send to him. Red Flag that I missed. I then was told to send the gift cards to a guy in Chicago along with $5,000. The Fire department was to bring the check so not to draw attention (really). The first time, they were stopped by the IRS or some government agency and the fire chief says the next day, I would have to pay $5000 to get it. A week later, another group of Fire fighters were in an accident and apparently 2 fire fighters did not make it and wants $7,500 to bring the check. By this time, I'm frustrated with all the nonsense so I called a cousin who is the legal field. When I told the story, she said, your aunt's FB page was hi-jacked - it has happened to others on FB. He kept contacting me to ask when he would get the money and I told him, I spoke to a lawyer and so told not to speak to him, file a police report and contact the BBB. I kept the messages and saved them in document form so I can have my record. I have NEVER been duped and this one got me. So be careful on the web if asked for money.

The person contacted me via Instagram pretending to be one of my family and telling me about about the Community Development Block Grant and how she received it. They then provide me a contact number to reach out too for an application. Once the so called application was done by a representative named Jeffrey Sterling, they then asked me to cash app $100 to $michjenni . Once I completed those steps they then said they needed another $800. That’s when I went to that Instagram person pretending to be my cousin and asked them personal information when they could not answer I knew it was a scam. I requested a refund but they declined it. I am now on my way to make a police report.

On Facebook, they sent a message through my friend contact list. They were claiming to be sent by my mother. They are from the Community Development Block Grant. They said I won $200,000. They have texted me several times. An Eric List was the person that wanted me to send them money so they can release the $200,000.

- Ladson, SC, USA

Was contacted by someone from my friends list on Facebook messenger but the app said it was a different person than my the one in my friends list. They told me they received $100,000 free from the Community Development Block Grant. They provided me with a phone number from another state to text. That person requested a bunch of info to fill out their application all to be sent over text.

Tues 4/7/30 I rcvd Facebook Msg from what I thought was a college classmate whom I had already friended, Bob Blythe. He told me about a grant program having rcvc $100K and gave me a link to follow, which opened up to another Facebook site Perporting to be the Community Development Block Grant, rep Williams D. Smith, he had me fill out a questionnaire, reviewed and indicated I was eligible. As I was walked through the process, I felt uncomfortable and relayed it to my 'classmate' who assured me that it was legit. I elected to submit $10K for a $500K grant. THe rep started to ask how I could transfer the funds, Bitcoins, Western Union, FEdex, Paypal.. I set up an account in paypal and was given the [email protected] e-mail to us for paypal. Paypal wasn't working. Credit cared wouldn't work. Ended up using MandT Bank Zerte program, Sent $1000 to [email protected], followed by $400, theyh wanted screen shots of each transfer. Couldn't send more. The wanted to go the bank first thing in the morning, pull the cash and Fedex it to the OHIO addresss, just cash in the box. Once I scanned the receipt as proof of sending the cash, agents who have been standing by would deliver my grant and I was instructed to not tell anyone in order to protect the delivery agents. I checked my friends facebook page and determined that his was real and had been hacked and shadow friend was the one communicating with me. I also researched confirmed that the CDBP was a scam. I stalled on going to the bank and have since been receiving continuous messages from the Facebook entities, phone calls and txt msgs from the rep and fake classmate through Monday, 4/13. Conversation from Facebook messaging copied, pasted and attached.

Contacted by Coast Guard Academy Classmate via Facebook Messenger, Hi how are you, Talked up program and provided a link to a grant program which, in turn opened up to a contact person and a background display of an agency. Once I hit the link, I was connected to an "agent" who the screened me, obtained info, ran it through their system, advised me that I was approved and proceeded to give me options to select size of grant based on a base submission of cash. Throughout this whole session, my supposed classmate wasstill messaging, reassuring me that it was legit and coaxing me to continue. We then went through several options for me to pay.

Fortunately, PayPal wasn't loading up, my bank system wasn't accepting his bank info, but I eventally forked ove $1400 using my bank's Zelle pogram. Since I couldn't complete the payment, I was instructed to send the payment in cash via FEDEX first thing in the morning an provide screen print of the receipt. I was then given instruction not to speak with anyone until after I had received my grant.

They caught me at an ideal time: I lost my wife to ALS 3 months ago, I'm sleep deprived and vulnerable. It was enough to suck me into the scam but as it played out, I obtained as much info as I could to report the scam. I would really like to talk to someone to flesh out the whole scam incident. I am still sleep deprived and trying to repoort it here is exhausting.

I am attaching a word document that contain the message strings and back ground info.

Even as I write this, the person that was walking me through the 'grant process' is on line right now waiting for me to scan and send a copy of the FedEx rcppt. I have more to share but this system only allows one attachment
