I was sent an ad via Instagram to be a mystery shopper. They send a “cashiers check” but it is pretty evident the check is fake (the watermark is not real) they also “follow up” through text messages that sound very unprofessional. Luckily after receiving the package in the mail I did some research before buying google play gift cards and sending them the information.

i answered an ad on facebook for MYSTERY SHOPPER with many comments stating it was legit. I received a cashier's check drawn on a real credit union, GECU in El, Paso, TX and told to cash/deposit check. I was to keep a small payment for the job and to then purchase various amounts of Google Play gift cards and send the codes immediately to listed email address. The information stated that I would be doing a survey of the mystery shop. i have worked for legitimate mystery shopping companies and this seemed fishy. i contacted the credit union to check the validity of the check and told that they had NO record of the check. it was a FAKE. SCAM. the other email listed on the paperwork was [email protected]

I signed up on Linkedin to be a secret shopper, the person that posted the ad was Linda Porterfield. On 2/13/19 I received a priority mail package from Sarah Bates from Carrollton GA 30117. There was a cashiers check for $998.00 and a letter with instructions of what I was suppose to do with the check. I contacted the bank GECU that confirm that the check was a fake.

I was contacted via email after receiving a seemingly legitimate email And then I fell for depositing their fake check into my account only to have it bounce. They were asking me to buy iTunes gift cards worth 650 and I would keep the remainder of the $998 check. Seemed too good to be true

I received an email about becoming a secret shopper. I requested more info because I had heard about them before but didn’t think they were a scam. A week later I got a text saying I had gotten a packet in the mail and to let them know when I got my assignment. It came with a check for 998 and the assignment saying to deposit it in my account and purchase iTunes gift cards and write how their service was with me. The check looked legit to me, it had cashed just fine so I didn’t think anything of it.

When I received the letter indicating what I should do .I saw a check for 1,980.00 the letter attached said to go to my bank or deposit check this letter contained information about my assignment was to be completed within 24 HRS to receive a bonus .meanwhile after I cleared check or got the money I was to deduct 200 for answered survey also transport money $80 and purchase Gift cards from iTunes or steam Wallet for the amount worth 1150 was not to purchase one gift card of no more the 100 however I could purchase of different denomination $50 $40 or$25 after purchase I was to scratch back of gift cards and take a clear picture of bar codes and receipts .and report it to the email shown and given in letter .also they asked that deduct $50 to spend on anything I wanted .no more than $50 with proof of purchase receipt this was for my personal use .afterwards deduct pay for finishing survey and answering within 24 hrs or before I was eligible for $ 440 if not done within the 24 hrs then I was to deduct 330 they asked that you deduct transport allowence money of $80

I put in my information at the above website to participate in a secret shopper job.

I got a check in the mail with $1980 to buy gift cards and send them a picture of the receipts as well as the code on the back. Was instructed too buy no more than $100 worth of itunes and steam gift cards in order to be a secret shopper. I had to answer questions about the store and it's cleanliness as well as customer service. The check was initially cashed using an ATM and put actual money in my bank account so I did not think anything of it. The "pay" was going to be $300 for the first assignment and told to do this within 24 hours to get an extra $100. Did the first assignment and then a second assignment offered me $2500 to buy iTunes gift cards work $2000 with each no higher than $100 each. This one also said to complete within 24 hours. I did not realize that the initial check was returned/rejected due to the bank suspecting it was a fake until 1 week later. Today I tried inputting some of the codes on the back of the card and realized none of them would work when trying to redeem them online. I did not give away any credit card information or banking information.

I received 2 checks to buy iTunes cards as a secret shopper. One for 998 dollars and one for 2500 dollars. I would receive 248 dollars for the first check and 500 for the second check. I cashed 998 dollar check on Saturday and it came back as a charge back from the bank. They sent another check today and I will not cash it.
