On Friday, August 23/19, I received a phone call from someone claiming to be from City Alarm ( a legit company) telling me that there was a problem with my security system as it was supposed to be testing the system automatically and that mine was either malfunctioning or in need of an upgrade. They wanted to set up an appointment to visit and upgrade the system. I do have a system from that company but the system is monitored and tested manually ( they contact me) from the monitoring agency. This sounded suspicious to me and so I told them that it was a bad time and that I would call them back. Due to circumstances, I was unable to call back until this morning. I spoke to an agent at City Alarm who assured me that they didn’t contact me, nor do they deal with monitoring the system. That any such calls would come from the monitoring agency. They also advised me that there is no such thing as self checking or automated testing available as of yet.

The agent that I spoke to hadn’t heard of anyone running a scam with their name, but would advise his colleagues.
