Circle of Service - Secret Shopper Reports & Reviews (1)

One of my LinkedIn contacts, who is a former colleague, sent InMail with a link to an offer to be a secret shopper. I am quite busy with my own work, so I passed this along to my wife and daughter, making sure that aside from our address, no personal information was given out. The job is supposed to give you money to make certain purchases and rate the customer experience. I was told there is a $1500 monthly stipend to be paid, along with $350 per shop.

Since my wife and daughter have 'applied' , they both received an email with the subject : "APPLICATION ACCEPTED", with instructions to use money sent to buy an item not greater that $50 in value from "any nearby store" and give feedback on customer service delivery. Soon there after each received an email with the subject: "PLEASE PROCEED", mentioning that an assignment will be given soon, asking for a confirmation of the email receipt. They then bothe received checks from desperate addresses in the amounts of $1995 (from Patelco Credit Union in Plesanton, CA) and $3,747.93 (from American University Washington College in Washington, DC). Both check were sent from addresses, via UPSP priority mail - neither of which matched any of the aforementioned check writers!! Nether my wife, nor daughter received any "assignment" thereafter.

We did not attempt to cash either check.
