Received numerous Recorded phone calls claiming to be from CIBC Visa re 'alert of unusual activity' and to press "1" for details. A phone number shows up with 'unknown name'. I didn't follow through but have received about a dozen calls in the past few days (all different numbers) appear with the (709) area code. I called CIBA Visa myself and reported this to them. They confirmed that there is no untoward activity on my credit card and that any such alert would be made by a person with a verified CIBC phone number and CIBC as 'caller'. I've also received calls (same voice on the recording), telling me that I'm eligible for 'interest free' and to press "1" to provide details to change my card data. Again a 709 area code 'unknown name' and different phone numbers each call. Both would come with an hour or two of each other. I think this is a 'scam' and that the public should be warned not to respond but to instead, call CIBC VISA directly as I did to verify (a) that the call would have been from them; and (b) whether there is any problem with your account.
