I was searching for apartments on Craigslist. I was interested in a listing, so I called the number that was provided and they quickly responded back to me via text message (from the number 602-567-9047). The text message asked me to send them my email so they could send me the details of the apartment. I gave them my email and they sent me an email (from the address [email protected]) shortly after with "details' ' and also letting me know that they have to do a background check and check my credit score before giving me a tour of the place. After some back and forth, they sent me a link to the Transunion credit reporting site. Although this is a real site, it is possible that the link was hacked and that they could see my personal information while I filled it in to get the report. I ended up sending them my credit report from Transunion, which gave them information about my name, credit score, 9 digits of credit card #, home address, mom's name and her credit score. They also have my phone number and email address. I went ahead and canceled my card and ordered a new one. I also froze all three of my credit files. I also reported it to the FTC.
