I contacted a seller on Craigslist via email regarding a golf cart. They indicated they wanted to use eBay Motors to complete the transaction and said they would have eBay send me an invoice and instructions on how to do so. There was an e-mail purportedly from eBay that was actually, upon closer inspection from [email protected]. It instructed me to pay with eBay gift cards and included a number to call for payment validation and guarantees of escrow and inspection periods etc. When I called, a lady with a thick Indian accent took my gift card number. She said they would validate payment and send me a follow up email in 40 mins. None came. I emailed the seller. I got suspicious and looked up the numbers for eBay and the number I was given and found the name of the “seller” and the phone number (408) 600-1458 associated over and over again with scams and fraudulent sales. I could kick myself for being such a sucker...
