I am the treasurer of a local organization. The scammer pretended to be our Chapter President. We were working on a fundraising campaign. My office was going through an Ownership change and I did not do my due diligence to verify who I was emailing. I truly believed I was emailing our Chapter President, He said he had some great items lined up for our upcoming conference and needed 3000.00. I do share the Treasure position with one other person, I do the deposits and he writes the checks. He was out of town and I had no way of writing a check so it was suggested that I get gift cards and send them to him. I did this the 1st time and sent him $3000.00 he then came back and asked for $2000.00 more, but by this time I finally got the feeling that something was not right. I did buy the $2000.00 gift cards but did not send them to him. He started to get rude. At that time I called our Chapter President and was informed that it was not him who was asking... I had been scammed. I do have the email thread saved.
