I received a letter from Chapman & Associates LLP law firm in Ontario, Canada telling me I may be an heir to an inheritance from a deceased individual with my same last name. It asked me to contact them for further information. A simple online search resulted in the following website: https://www.chapmansllp.com, the website on the letter I received. However, the website is a fake site. It borrows all its images and information from a real law firm: ********************** The real law firm informed me that this scam has been reported to the U.S. Postal Service as well as Canadian law enforcement.

Scammer (based on identity claimed) tries to pass himself off as an older white Canadian but sounds African. When I called the phone number presented he was evasive and wanted my email address. I demurred and said I would send it to *his* email wherein he requested that I communicate to two separate email addresses (both of which appeared on the fake letterhead/letter received): [email protected] with a cc to [email protected]. Sounded dodgy, and after a number of internet searches to see if anyone else was experiencing this letter/claim finally found https://www.bbb.org/scamtracker/lookupscam/691544 and https://www.scampulse.com/inheritance-scam-reviews confirming my suspicions. I was also unable to find any death records for the claimed relative with my last name. Needless to say, I did not send my email or identify myself other than by first name though he did seem to know the scam inheritance amount so it seems likely that this may be the only currently running scam by this individual.
