They called my aunt and my husband, and stated that I had written fraudulent checks. As I know this is not true, and a scam, I wanted to call and gather more information to report them. She asked for the last four of my social, to verify my identity. When I told her I wasn't doing that, she said she could verify my indentity by my email address. She said that it and I said yes that's correct. She then proceeded to tell me it wasn't about fraudulent checks, but was apparently about a loan I took out and didn't pay back. That the loan was $250, the total owed now was $355 and that they would be willing to hear how much I could offer to drop the matter. She said "as close to the $250 amount as possible" when I asked her for the company's website she put me on hold to find it. Then when I asked for the companies email address, she again put me on hold to find it. When I told her that I googled the company phone number on the website, and the phone numbers given to my husband, aunt and myself. They all showed no existing number or business, and were linked to complaints. I asked her why google is showing her company and phone numbers as non existent. She said "she had no idea but that she promised they were real" then asked how much I wanted to pay. When I said I would be forwarding all of the information to the police department, she then hung up on me. After doing some more searching I found her her company website was created 6 weeks ago on August 28th of this year.
