I received a phone call on my cell phone from a number listed as (855)278-1853- It was initially a recording asking for me to hold on and it used my first and last name on the automated message- (although they used my maiden name and I've gone by my married name since 2007). After I held thinking what is this regarding- Someone got on the line and asked if I was the person listed in the message and I said yes- she then said she is contacting me regarding a payday loan from Laser Loans that I defaulted on and I owed money in the amount of $550. I told her there was a mistake because I've never heard of that company nor do I owe money to a loan center. I said I monitor my credit report carefully and have never received any notification via mail or anything else stating I owe money- She then read off my actual social security number in it's entirety and also had the last 4 digits of my actual bank account which really concerned me. I did not verify it with her although I did tell her if this was true which I know it's not then you would have my correct name too and you do not.

She then said okay well then we'll have to pursue you in court and you will be sued and your wages garnished. I then told her okay well I guess I'll wait for the paperwork. She said the judge will make up his mind on how to go about collecting the debt. I then became very upset as I knew at that point it had to be some type of fraud- I asked her what do I need to do to not be turned over to the "judge" and she said you need to pay the $550 dollars you owe. I asked her when I took out the loan and she said some time several years ago- I asked for a specific date and she said 2012.

I told her she can go straight to *** and I'll wait for those papers and I hung up on her. I didn't receive another call after that.

Immediately after I called my banks fraud department to give them a heads up and to ensure there was no way a 3rd party could access my account- they said IF my account was tampered with then we can go about making a fraud report and said he through it highly unlikely anything will come of it. He then encouraged me to fill a claim with the BBB.

It infuriates me that people do things like this to innocent people and that if I was someone maybe elderly or very young and naïve they may have made a payment to someone they don't even know and been a victim of fraud. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have following this complaint.

Here's all the information I wrote down as I was talking to them:

She stated her name was Melanie Jones- and it was a business matter being handled by her company on behalf of Laser Loans- When I asked what business she is representing she said CFS- when asked what that stands for she ignored me and kept asking if I wanted this to go to court. Again the number listed on my cell phone they were calling from is (855)278-1853. She did not have a foreign accent although she did sound to me to be African American.

I hope these people can be stopped.
